What rebates are available
If you live in the Northern Rivers region, you may be eligible for the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which offers upfront discounts on solar installations via Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). These rebates are applied automatically through your installer and can reduce the cost of a typical 6.6kW system by $2,000 to $3,000.
While NSW doesn’t currently offer a state battery rebate, you may still benefit from feed-in tariffs, occasional battery incentives, and green loans through providers like Brighte.

How do STCs work?
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are part of the Australian Government’s renewable energy incentive. When you install an eligible solar system under 100kW, you earn STCs based on your system size and location. These certificates represent the clean energy your system is expected to generate over 10 years.
In practice, your solar installer will usually claim the STCs on your behalf and apply them as an upfront discount on your total system cost — meaning you save instantly without needing to claim anything yourself.
